Meet The Founder of The Southern Elephant

Welcome to The Southern Elephant blog, where Conservative values roam free! My name is Randy, and I’m the Founder and driving force behind this blog. Born and raised in the heart of Louisiana, I’ve always been deeply connected to the values and principles that make our nation great. With a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Louisiana State University and decades of hands-on political experience, I created The Southern Elephant as a platform to share my thoughts, insights, and analyses on the issues that matter most to us.

A Voice for Conservative Ideals

As a proud Conservative Republican, I believe in the power of personal responsibility, limited government, and the rule of law. My goal with The Southern Elephant blog is to provide a space where like-minded individuals can come together to discuss, debate, and defend the ideals that have shaped our country. Whether it’s dissecting the latest political developments or reflecting on the core principles that guide our party, I aim to offer thoughtful commentary that resonates with fellow Conservatives.

My Political Journey

My passion for politics began in the first grade and has only grown stronger over the years. As a high school student, I served as Student Body President and was elected Lieutenant Governor at Louisiana Boys State, where I learned the importance of leadership and civic duty. I went on to volunteer for the Bush/Quayle ’92 Presidential Campaign, serving on the local advance team for campaign visits. Since then, I’ve successfully managed and advised various local election campaigns and have volunteered for numerous local, state, and national candidates.

My commitment to Conservative values is not just theoretical; it’s deeply rooted in practical experience. I’ve been a candidate for local Republican office, and my involvement in the political process has given me a firsthand understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face as a nation.

Overcoming Challenges: My Spina Bifida Journey

My journey to my beliefs began before I was born. My father served in the US Army and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He survived, came home from battle, married, and began a family. I was born in the 1970s with a birth defect called Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele, the most severe form of Spina Bifida. My parents were told I would not survive but a few hours, and if I did survive, I would be a “vegetable” and require intense care my entire life. Growing up with Spina Bifida, I’ve faced many physical challenges, but it’s only strengthened my belief in personal responsibility and resilience. Living with this condition has taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and never backing down from adversity. It’s also reinforced my commitment to a Conservative vision where the government empowers individuals to thrive independently rather than fostering reliance on the government. My experiences have shaped my worldview, driving me to advocate for policies that promote individual freedom, self-reliance, and a strong moral foundation. As it turns out, Congress recognized in 1996 that my, and others’, Spina Bifida was caused by my father’s exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam and passed the Agent Orange Benefits Act. Despite this admission to my government and military causing my debilitating birth defect, I am deeply supportive of our military and government.
